Wicomico County VINE Coverage
The Maryland VINE Service is the statewide custody and notification channel linked by Wicomico County Corrections. Maryland materials describe reporting from detention centers, the Division of Correction, District and Circuit courts, parole, and probation. That makes it useful for a person associated with the Wicomico County Detention Center or Maryland state custody. It is an event service, not a complete historical release archive.
Coverage must follow the last custodian. A local detention event may be reported by the Wicomico County Detention Center. A state-prison event comes from the Maryland Division of Correction. A person moved to the Bureau of Prisons, the U.S. Marshals Service, or ICE requires the appropriate federal system. VINELink does not replace those sources. A transfer also is not the same as release into the community, even when Wicomico County custody has ended.

A VINELink release result can support the fact that a participating source reported a change. It may not provide the exact local release time, legal release type, destination, or full court basis. Those details belong in an existing Wicomico County booking or release record and the related District or Circuit Court file. A report that someone is no longer held locally also cannot rule out movement to state, federal, immigration, or another county’s custody.

Register Wicomico Release Alerts
After opening the correct individual record, the Notify function can register an alert through the methods offered on the live screen. Maryland materials identify phone, text, email, app, and TTY channels. Contact details and the phone confirmation PIN are private registration data and should not be shared or exposed in a screenshot.
- Open the matching individual’s detail and select Notify or the notification option.
- Choose a phone, email, text, app, TTY, or other method shown by the service.
- Enter the selected contact information accurately.
- For a telephone alert, create the required four-digit PIN.
- Add another phone number or email only if the live interface offers that choice.
- Continue through the screen and confirm the registration.
- When a call arrives, listen to the event message and enter the four-digit PIN followed by the pound sign.
Entering the PIN confirms receipt and stops repeat telephone calls for that event. Maryland material says an unanswered call may leave a message and retry until the PIN is entered or for up to 48 hours. A forgotten PIN can be addressed through Maryland VINE at 1-866-634-8463 by pressing 0. A switchboard should not be registered because the alert needs to reach the person who expects it.

Maryland Transfer Alert Limits
Maryland’s official sources do not state transfer coverage in the same way. A newer Maryland VINE brochure lists transfer among custody changes. The DPSCS Victim Services page, however, says VINE does not notify about an institution-to-institution transfer. That conflict should not be resolved by promising the broader option.
Review the notification-event choices shown for the actual VINELink record. If transfer is offered, its presence reflects the live service for that registration. If it is not offered, do not assume another alert type will cover the move. This matters in Wicomico County because a departure from the Detention Center can be a transfer to the Maryland Division of Correction, another jurisdiction, USMS, or ICE rather than community release.
The DPSCS Victim Services explanation also distinguishes its own notification program from VINE and warns against relying on one method. A county or court record remains essential when the legal nature of the movement matters.
Wicomico Release or Transfer
A release event and a custody transfer answer different questions. A Wicomico County release to the community may follow bond, a court order, sentence completion, or another qualifying action. A transfer ends the county detention episode but moves the person to another custodian. The receiving agency, facility, and court history help tell those events apart.

Wicomico County does not publish a public named-person roster or recent-release archive. Its release-date policy also says staff may not provide release or court dates to the general public. Calling the Detention Center can identify the correct records custodian, but it is not a promised date-disclosure channel.
Wicomico State-Custody Checks
The Maryland DPSCS incarcerated-individual locator is a current-housing tool. A matching result can show covered state custody. The locator expressly excludes people no longer in custody for any reason, including release or escape. It does not publish a released or discharged result, actual release date, projected date, parole status, or supervision status.
That limitation changes how a Wicomico County VINELink release check is reconciled. A state-locator match means current covered state housing. No state-locator match proves nothing by itself. Federal custody requires a different route. The BOP locator can retain a released federal status for people within its coverage, while USMS pretrial movement is chiefly resolved through the federal court and USMS records. A clear check separates three facts: who the person is, which agency reported the event, and whether the event was release, transfer, or another custody change. That method avoids treating a dropped record as proof and keeps the result tied to Wicomico County’s actual release channels.
